Basically Google is scrubbing its privacy policies from all its products and consolidating it into one privacy policy. They have also tried to make sure the privacy policy clear and readable (cutting down on technical language and legalese). You can read more about at the Google Policies & Principles page.
Of course there is a few aspects to this, as in the "why are they doing this", to the "how does this screw up my life". But one of the things I wanted to highlight about this is the structure of this policy change.
The first page display the 6 main relevant points that need to be highlighted. From what I can make out it is the reason behind the policy change, the impact and consequence (advantages from Google point of view), addressing the main concerns of the users (privacy) and highlighting access to where users can find more info about how Google uses your data and the pre-requisite FAQ.
The other main pages (Privacy Policy & Terms of Service) are the main ppolicy documents but are laid out in a a clear and concise manner. The FAQ allows one to skim through the salient points of the changes and consolidation in the policy document.
Hidden behind all this is the Good To Know page which details out the finer points of privacy concerns wrt to Google services in a very clear and clean manner. This microsite itself I feel is a hidden gem to the whole exercise.
Why did I go to such trouble to highlighting such a DRY issue? Well, my day job happens to be paper-pushing stuff like policy changes and I think the way it was laid out made it one of the better models I have seen.
The reception to this policy change however is a whole different thing though. ; )
