The Future of Mobile Communications (& TelCos) in Singapore

Lately I have been getting hooked on TechCrunch, mainly due to its geek-magnet factor, but also because it makes me feel I'm on the leading edge of technology. Not the cutting edge, that would be R&D Biopolis stuff, but rather just new trends in technology that will affect the established social order. Like when geo-location services and apps were introduced into our smartphones.

I was considering penning my thoughts on the future of our mobile voice & data telecommunication, the crappy business models of our local telcos which does not really benefit my personal needs and the current ongoing mobile revolution. In case you didn't notice there's a smackdown going on between the titans of the technology world while the rest of the small, nimble start-ups just enjoy rocking the boat.

However this kick-ass article beat me to it. While you're reading that consider the following factors in our Singapore context:

  1. fibre-optic based NBN
  2. the impending 4G network
  3. mobile internet
  4. mobile transactions - putting the ez-link chip into our smartphones
I'll continue after the break...
