Microsoft Word Woes Rant

I hate Microsoft Word Styles.

I mean it's useful and convenient and all but when you're writing policy and procedure and there's all this differing numbering and lettering systems that you need to put in, it's very hard to put in stuff semantically. I pretty sure its really easy if you have the whole document structured out first and then apply styles but it's such a PAIN IN THE BUTT to apply to an existing document.

Half the time the lists numbering refuse to restart and the other half when you do get to restart the numbering the style switches to another one that you're not using. I'm not sure if it's buggy or what. So unfriendly for first time users. I'm not even going to talk about the inability to dynamically update data from from another word file.

But I give you that it's pretty powerful. Change one, change all similar styles. It's just that it's such a petulant child that refuses to listen to anything you say. Especially if your deadline is 10 hours away.

Sigh.
