Mortality

Mr Mendaki was back in town the past few weeks for Raya so the "Mangkuks" took the opportunity to catch up. Aside from conversations about Doemstic Violence, ECs, whether onions can grow in Abu Dabhi and stir-fried dates was the creeping realisation that everyone is either stabilizing, growing older, and gaining maturity. Even Ice. = )

But I'm glad that although I detected the undercurrents of growing sobriety in everyone, it seems that no one has changed. No matter where we were in our lives or wherever we were on this planet, we're still the same goofy people, albeit a wider perspective and larger outlook of the world. Some call it experience, some call it world-weariness. But you know what? Whatever changes in perspectives we underwent in the last ten years, it is not permanent. We will wear different lenses ten years from now.

And today I looked upon Kate sleeping soundly on the floor and saw, not only of how beautiful she looked, but also a glimpse of our mortality, how we would age many years from now and wondered what kind of persons we would be then, happy and contented with our blessings that late in life or bitter with opportunities cost.

If happiness is a borne out of a conscious choice, then I choose to be happy.
= D
