I've just finished reading another self-help book: Weekend Life Coach: How To Get the Life You Want In 48 Hours by Lynda Field.
I'm a self-help book junkie. I can't help it, they make me feel good. Every few months, I just grab the next available self-help paperback that catches my eye at the library. After reading a few pages/chapters, my self-esteem goes up, my confidence soars and I feel a lot more cheerful. Content wise most of the books are basically saying the same thing but the tone is so UPBEAT that I gave myself a kick in the ass to re-examine my life and do something worthwhile. As these types of books go, this was one of the better ones. Less clinical, more upbeat and personal. Not much in the way of originality but it does motivate you like few others can. Granted it took me more than 48 hours to finish reading it but finish it I did.
Anyway what I wanted to say was I began surfing around again last weekend (No! Not for porn!), and found a few designer websites that really caught my eye and took my breath away;
Ben Gillbanks made some very good points in his latest post about why he blogs and I agree with most of it. I started this site as a personal space, one with a slightly formal bent. A place where I can express my ideas and thoughts and make non-offensive jokes. It was also to showcase some off my latent web design skills. Web Design isn't a full time job for me. I'm not a graphic artist nor an artistic person but I like to dabble in the dark arts nonetheless. Key word: "dabble". Not "slog".
I still love dooce.com for it's content and at some point in the future I want to have a site like that. Honest and funny. Do I want tons of hits? No, I guess that's not important. If I can 20 people coming here regularly, I'll say that would be a lifetime achievement knowing what I say matters to someone.
So that's where I'll start: Content.
