Project: Movie Freecard

This is a weak attempt in trying to document my web design efforts. My current project is the personal movie freecard showcase site for maudledpsycho. Basically he collects those poster/lobby cards in cinemas featuring movie posters and wants a site to display his collection and to aid him in trading. The site is basically a gallery of his card scans & a list of cards that he has available for trade with the front page showing an update of any new cards. At first I thought he should be better off with blogspot or MSN Spaces. All the tools have been simplified for him there. Of course where's the fun in that? So I offered my help but warned him that it would be a slow arduous process because it's me and I'm not being paid. :) So it's a very basic layout. Semantically, for the front page it consists of header, navigation, main and footer sections. Main section will be divided into main content and a sidebar for stuff that might interest readers. At first I stunned the layout from another HTML & CSS validated website but it's HTML did go well with me since he had DIVs id'ed "clear" that seemed to serve as multiple line breaks. It did not seem very semantic to me. I kept the 760px width for the main section as well as the 270px width for the sidebar column. Very traditional. I wanted to give a overlapping paper/photograph feel so I tried a few white borders and tons of dropshadows. I'm not sure it came out right. Font-wise I kept my favourite Trebuchet MS. It didn't look that bad but still very amateurish. Most of the background images are completed but are not uploaded yet until more of the site is completed. So the current state of the site is only the index page is completed but I guess it serves as useful template for the rest of the site. I'm still struggling to create a logo/icon for the site. I admit I'm not a graphic artist so this particular issue will probably bug me till the end. I'll grapple with more issues next time round.
